1.To protect your Pc the 1st thing u must have is the Antivirus software ,u can use the free one for basic security needed like AVG ,and MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS or the commercial one with much completed feature.

2.Firewall and so called Internet Security is the Second base of your basic security needed.U can use the free one like COMODO INTERNET SECURITY or ZONE ALARM to gain much feature u must use the commercial one of this product

3.Spyware Removers is the Third base of your  basic security for home user,u can pick  Spyware Doctor or Ad-Aware Free Anti Malware.

4.Create LIMITED ACCOUNT like User account don’t use Administrator account to log in to network or internet in windows xp u can push start buttons at start menu then choose control panel >Switch to Classic View>Administrative tools>Computer Management>then click the expand buttons choose Local Users and Groups>then click folder Users>then choose New User> fill the name u want and choose the strong password then click the Create buttons>then close>after that your account that has been made will show up at user list,the next step is to configure the properti of the account >right click your account then choose properties >then uncheck all except user cannot change password options must enable>then apply,Administrator accounts on your computer should only used when you want to make big changes to your system, or install new software which needed with Administrator privilege

5.Choose the safer browser applications to browse the internet ,choose the one which have the anti XSS (Cross Side Scripting attack) feature and have CSRF(Content Security Request Forgery)protector,take alook  at The Fundamentally Broken Browser Model
